Chick-fil-A Launches ‘Plant-Forward’ Sandwich Made of Cauliflower

Chick-fil-A has introduced a new cauliflower sandwich, the first plant-based meal option provided by the fast food chain.

In a press release, Chick-fil-A, the famed chicken-based fast-food outlet, announced that from Monday, they would be launching the “Cauliflower Sandwich” in three regions for customers to try. Vegetarians in Denver, Colorado, Charleston, South Carolina, and Greensboro, North Carolina, will be able to try their first plant-based meal option.

“The sandwich is made with a tender filet cut from a whole, real cauliflower and embraces the plant-forward style that places vegetables at the center of the entrée,” Chick-fil-A said. Like their normal chicken sandwich, “it is marinated, breaded with a signature seasoning, pressure-cooked, and served on a toasted buttery bun with two dill pickle chips.”

Leslie Neslage, the director of menu and packaging at Chick-fil-A, said that cauliflower was the “hero” of their new sandwich, which was created after “guests told [them] they wanted to add more vegetables into their diets.”

The Cauliflower Sandwich was under production for almost four years, with the Chick-fil-A chefs exploring “every corner of the plant-based space in search of the perfect centerpiece for our plant-forward entrée,” according to Stuart Tracy, the culinary developer of the sandwich.

“Time and time again, we kept returning to cauliflower as the base of our sandwich,” Tracy said. “After a significant amount of development, we knew we had a one-of-a-kind entrée; one that puts a delicious spin on what we’re known for – great tasting food with ingredients you can trust.”

However, the response online was not exactly positive, with many posting light-hearted tweets mocking the decision. “Looks like Chick-fil-A is extending a hand to its potential Antifa clientele,” tweeted conservative commentator Lauren Chen, while the Libertarian Party’s Mises Caucus posted that the new sandwich was proof that Chick-fil-A had been “got” by “the globalists.”

As a result, the official Chick-fil-A news account was forced to lock their replies on their tweet making the announcement.
