Vasectomy Demand Skyrocketed After Abortion Decision: Report

The number of men seeking vasectomies skyrocketed after the Supreme Court decision to reverse Roe v. Wade earlier this year, according to a new report released earlier this month.

A branch of Planned Parenthood, the controversial taxpayer-funded organization that provides abortion access in many states, made the surprising revelation in remarks to KIRO 7.

That branch – which covers the Northwest, Hawaii, Alaska, Indiana, and Kentucky – reported a 34% increase in men receiving vasectomy procedures in 2022 when compared to the previous year, the outlet reported.

At the same time, the outlet reports that Google Trends suggests a massive new interest in the procedure, and doctors told the TV station that more single men without children are seeking the procedure.

Many speculate that more men are sterilizing themselves due to either fear they will not be able to abort their unborn children, or due to pressure from women who fear becoming pregnant.

Though generally considered a safe and reversible procedure, Mayo Clinic notes that simple reversal of the procedure does not necessarily mean the patient will be able to father a child.

Prior to this new surge in interest, Stanford Health Care reported that around 6% of men who receive vasectomies will change their mind wish to father children again. They report that their success rate with vasectomy reversals hovers between 90% and 95%.

The Cleveland Clinic reports that, prior to Roe v. Wade being reversed, more than 500,000 men opted to have the sterilization procedure each year.

Meanwhile, those seeking vasectomies may be seeking them without cause.

When Roe v. Wade was reversed by the Supreme Court in 2022, the legal status of abortion did not change in the majority of states. In fact, most Democratic strongholds have enshrined abortion into their state constitutions, making sure women will have the right to terminate the unborn regardless Roe’s reversal.

Many conservative states that attempted to place limits on abortion have faced gargantuan legal battles from well funded pro-abortion groups, as well.

However, in the immediate wake of the decision, abortion clinics did close in 8 conservative leaning states, with many openly stating their days would be numbered without Roe’s protection.
