On Monday, Governor Gavin Newsom appeared on “CBS Evening News” and summoned his inner communist, claiming that the Second Amendment is a “suicide pact” while discussing a mass shooting that left 11 people dead at a dance studio in Monterey Park.
CBS anchor Norah O’Donnell said, “One person who visited this community today was California Governor Gavin Newsom to offer his condolences to victims and their families.”
“It’s a disgrace,” Newsom replied. “Nothing about this is surprising. Everything about this is infuriating.”
O’Donnell pointed out, “California has the strictest gun laws in the U.S.”
Newsom rebutted, “I mean, the Second Amendment has become a suicide pact.”
O’Donnell argued, “But there are many in this country that support the Second Amendment and are lawful gun owners.”
Newsom shot back, “Yeah, I have great respect. I have no ideological opposition to someone reasonably and responsibly owning firearms and getting background checks and being trained.”
“How did he get a gun that is illegal in the state of California?” O’Donnell asked.
Newsom responded, “We will figure it out. This is going to happen. We enforce laws, but things get through the cracks, but that doesn’t mean you give up.”
“I will submit that, regardless of the challenges as it relates to behavioral health, there is not a country in the world that doesn’t experience behavioral health issues,” he added.

O’Donnell is absolutely correct. America has more guns than any other nation in the world, with 46% of households in America owning AT LEAST one firearm. That is nearly half the country. If responsible gun owners were the issue, you’d know!
In pretty much every instance of a mass shooting, the shooter obtained the firearm illegally.
The bottom line here is that a criminal will act like a criminal. If they want something, making it illegal will not change anything. If people like Newsom had their way and took guns from law-abiding citizens, then the only people who will have guns will be the criminals. Where is the logic in that?
