MTG Hints McCarthy Will Back National Ban on ‘Gender Affirming Care’ for Kids

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, the Republican from Georgia, hinted that Speaker Kevin McCarthy will support her upcoming bill to ban “gender affirming care” for children on the national level in remarks made during her speech at CPAC 2023.

Greene, who fervently supported McCarthy through his days-long bid to become Speaker of the House, celebrated his leadership before announcing her intention to ban transgender care for children on the national level.

“We have a new Speaker in our Republican Majority,” Greene told the crowd, to subdued applause, before promising, to introduce a new bill titled “the Protect Children’s Innocence Act, that will make it a felony to perform anything to do with gender affirming care on children.”

After receiving applause, Greene acknowledged, “Obviously you all agree with me.”

“But it’s not just conservative Republicans that agree with this,” Greene explained. “This isn’t a right wing extremist idea, everyone, that we should protect children from making a horrible mistake.”

Greene acknowledged that “many of these kids” later regret the treatments, “realize it’s a horrible mistake and they hate what they’ve done to themselves, then they’re left with lifelong disabilities from people that are making billions of dollars mutilating their genitals.”

The firebrand Republican then suggested it would be possible to receive bipartisan support for the idea, and noted that some voices on the left remain critical of transgender politics.

“Let’s think about it like this: This is actually an idea for all Americans.” Greene said, with some levity, “it’s not just a Republican idea, because people like Bill Maher agree on this issue, even though he attacks me.”

Once a strident enemy of McCarthy, with the then-Republican Leader once submitting to Democratic demands to strip Greene of her committee assignments, Greene has become a seemingly unlikely ally of the man who once dined with World Economic Forum founder Klaus Schwab.

During the heated but historic Republican debate over who to elect Speaker, at one point Greene seemed to suggest to Fox News host Tucker Carlson that McCarthy agreed to impeach Joe Biden in a bid to win her support.
