The GOP’s Losing Playbook: It’s Time for a Reboot

By Dr. Robert Renteria | FreedomTalk Magazine, October, 2026

Most everyone is focused on early voting with millions of ballots already cast, the outcome will dictate whether Republicans maintain their unified government or if Democrats can successfully retake control of one or both chambers of Congress.

My reflection however is not about what Republicans are doing or maybe will be doing if elected but rather what Republicans are not doing now to engage with communities of color and of other various ethnicities.

I have previously written articles about how many Republicans who are still unfortunately stuck in their own comfortable sandboxes, despite my best efforts encouraging them to be more missional and relational we are seeing the same old boring play book.  Being seen, taking selfies, marching in parades, going to the Reagan & Lincoln Day dinners, giving speeches about what they are going to do on day one if elected is an outdated playbook the does not work anymore.

My hope is that the Republicans do win both at the local and statewide levels, however my gut tells me because of the lack of engagement that its very unlikely and will prove to be a very painful November 3rd, especially here in Illinois and also in other cities and states across America.

I would love to see a big WIN in November but here in Illinois we have no real ground game, no mission and no efforts in building new relationships with not just the minority communities but also the need to build bridges with people who are in the Democratic party.

Yes, we must seriously engage if we ever plan to grow the Republican party and win again, there are many Democrats who are conservative and who are also very upset and concerned about where the country has been and where it is heading!

UNIITY must be added into our playbook after the midterm elections, it is too late now to pretend and be more disingenuous than we have already displayed in our lack of building relationships.  The behavior of many Republicans in Illinois and also in other cities and states has been insincere, not completely honest, or lacking candor—often by giving a false appearance of ignorance.

We must all reflect on the good, the bad and the ugly after November 3rd, there must also be a changing of the guard so we can add both the Black and Hispanic Americans to rightfully and respectfully have a very important seat at the table.  The GOP actually should stand for “My Grandparents Old Party,” it is time to reboot and wake up and actually be the party for and of all Gods people. We must not think anymore about the good old days, we must seriously create a new Republican party.

I am not a professional politician, I am a servant leader and a U.S. army airborne veteran and a non-commissioned officer who cares more about people over politics.  This is my ask after November 3rd, that we look in the mirror and be totally honest with ourselves.  I am not saying everyone in the Republican party is guilty but if we took a poll there would be overwhelmingly a LARGE % of guilty people of hidden agendas, artful or calculating, insincere, deceitful, dishonest and a lack of real interest to serve the people we say we hope to represent.

I offer myself as a viable resource to the Republican party and also to my fellow conservatives and patriots,  lets schedule a call and or a face to face meeting to talk about a revamp of the old party and to bring a “Unity Campaign” going forward that will change the narrative of multiple others who believe that we are a bunch of old white people who simply don’t care about anyone or anything other than ourselves.

I am a Hispanic Republican who has served on the Board of Directors for the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and been a member of every Hispanic Chamber in Illinois.

I am here to help the Republican Party and our candidates gain access to our communities so that together can take your walk to the pathway to victory!

The children are the future which is why I have dedicated the past two decades in developing an academic program to fix a fractured educational system, to also help fight to stop the indoctrination that many people are trying to hurt and destroy our children.  Also, I am fighting to help bring back both God and the flag of the United States of America back into our classrooms.

I ask you to please believe in love we trust, if we learn how to love one another then we can be champions of this place here today that we call home to help take care of our families, our neighbors, our communities, our great cities and then beyond.

Remember, if we break bread, we will go RED!

Amen
