FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE—June 10, 2025
WASHINGTON, D.C.—Leaders of the Parents Demanding Justice Alliance traveled to Washington to confront the federal abuse of power that vilified everyday parents as “domestic terrorists.” Representing thousands of affected families, the delegation included Kelly John Walker, founder of FreedomTalk; Sam Sorbo, acclaimed actress, filmmaker, and education freedom advocate; and Liza Rickard of Andrew Magazine.
This powerful visit marks a pivotal moment in the fight to restore justice and constitutional rights to American families demonized for attending school board and school meetings.
Background: Weaponization Against Parents
On October 4, 2021, Attorney General Merrick Garland issued a memo mobilizing federal law enforcement under the Patriot Act in response to a letter from the National School Boards Association (NSBA) that outrageously compared concerned parents to domestic terrorists. The result was a chilling campaign of intimidation and surveillance aimed at mothers and fathers who dared to speak out against harmful COVID mandates, radical curricula, and school board overreach.
As documented in a targeting timeline, numerous parents across the country were monitored, harassed, arrested, and in some cases criminally prosecuted—all for exercising their First Amendment rights. The DOJ’s actions, coordinated with school boards as well as state and local government officials, represent one of the most egregious civil liberties violations in modern American history.
A May 2025 call to action by the Alliance (Urgent Call to Congress) outlined the legal and moral imperative for Congress and the Executive Branch to act decisively.
June 2–5: Demanding Justice in D.C.
On June 2, Sorbo and Walker joined Rep. Andy Ogles (TN) in-studio on NTD’s Capitol Report, calling for parents to reclaim their rightful role in their children’s education and for truth to replace fear and coercion in public policy.
On June 3, the group was invited to the White House West Wing, where they met with Vince Hayley, the new White House Domestic Policy Council Director. During the meeting, Hayley listened intently as the Alliance detailed the harms inflicted by DOJ policies—ranging from wrongful arrests to lasting reputational and financial damage.

Most critically, Hayley emphasized that restoring the role of families and family values in American policy is not optional—it is essential. He agreed that the federal government must reverse course by crafting policies that place parents—not bureaucrats—at the center of educational, cultural, and family justice priorities.
He also acknowledged the need for a Presidential Executive Order that formally condemns the DOJ’s actions and initiates restitution for the families affected. Hayley noted that any such order must be backed by policy changes that structurally re-empower families and correct the cultural drift that enabled the weaponization of federal institutions against its own citizens.
“We presented not only stories, but hard facts, and we were pleased by the reception and clear concern from the White House on this issue.” said Kelly John Walker. “Vince Hayley understood that justice for these parents is not a suggestion—it’s a constitutional requirement.”
Later that day, the group met at DOJ headquarters with Ed Martin, newly appointed by President Trump as Director of the Weaponization Working Group under the Attorney General.
Martin confirmed that his office is reviewing specific cases where parents were wrongfully arrested, prosecuted, or defamed, and is actively working to pursue legal redress and accountability. He expressed full agreement with the Alliance’s call for both justice and systemic reform.
“This is about more than correcting the past—it’s about protecting the future,” said Sam Sorbo. “We must ensure that no American parent is ever again targeted by their own government for defending their children.”
A National Reckoning
The Parents Demanding Justice Alliance is not simply calling for reform—it is demanding a reckoning for the federal abuse of power. The group has called for:
- A Presidential Executive Order acknowledging the wrongful targeting of parents
- Full restitution for victims—including legal, financial, and reputational damages
- Structural reforms to prevent future federal overreach;
- Criminal accountability for officials who abused their positions.
With allies in Congress, at the DOJ, and inside the White House, the Parents Demanding Justice Alliance has turned a corner in this historic battle.
“We’re not here to beg for our rights. We’re here to reclaim them,” said Sam Sorbo. “Parents are the rightful stewards of their children—not the federal government, and certainly not weaponized bureaucrats.”
“The same DOJ that ignored real crime chose instead to target moms in school board meetings,” added Walker. “That ends now.”
