GOSAR: Tanks Sent to Ukraine Belong on Southern Border, ‘Where America Is Being Invaded’

Rep. Paul Gosar has called for tanks to be sent to the southern border “where America is being invaded,” rather than to Ukraine.

Gosar made the statement following the American and German governments’ decision to follow the footsteps of the UK and eventually send dozens of tanks to Ukraine to help fight against Russian troops in the country. The United States is set to send 31 M1 Abrams tanks, potentially over the course of years, with Germany agreeing to send 14 Leopard 2 A6s in the more immediate term.

Gosar slammed the decision to send tanks to Ukraine, arguing that those tanks instead “belong on our southern border, where America is being invaded.” Gosar tweeted this constituents “are in Arizona, not Ukraine” and “The only invasion that I am concerned with is the invasion on our southern border.”

In December, the US Border Patrol reported 16,000 migrant encounters at the southern border in 48 hours, with El Paso seeing the single biggest group crossing ever. Multiple gang members, murderers, and sex offenders, were in the wave that made the crossing.

Last week, 45th President Donald Trump had also warned against the West escalating the conflict in Ukraine by sending tanks. “FIRST COME THE TANKS, THEN COME THE NUKES,” Trump said in a statement posted to Truth Social on Thursday morning. “Get this crazy war ended, NOW!” he added. “So easy to do!”

The America First congressman stood firmly by the messaging of the former President.

“We need peace between Ukraine and Russia, not more American equipment, tanks, and endless blank checks to Ukraine. This war needs to be resolved. America should be a peace maker, not a  war monger,” Gosar said. “The biggest threat to everyday Americans isn’t Russia. It’s the American politicians trying to pull us into a war with Russia.”

Former Arizona gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake enthusiastically endorsed Gosar’s message on Twitter. Last year, Lake said that if she was elected as Arizona governor, she would formally declare that the state was being invaded on the southern border, enabling an activation of the National Guard to tackle the crisis.

In August, Gosar, who was joined by fellow Representatives Marjorie Taylor Greene and Thomas Massie, called for an immediate moratorium on foreign aid, as the Biden administration continued to send billions of dollars to Ukraine. “Other countries are shamelessly looting our own? Turn off the money spigot,” Gosar said.
