45th President Donald Trump is doubling down on his claims that members of the January 6 Committee should be investigated for “treason” amid fallout from Fox News host Tucker Carlson’s release of Capitol security footage, which revealed that Capitol Police escorted protesters throughout the complex and into the Senate chamber.
Valiant News reported earlier this week that Carlson released previously suppressed footage that showed Capitol Police officers behaving like “tour guides” for January 6 defendant, 33 year old Navy veteran Jacob Chansley, otherwise known as “QAnon Shaman.”
“Virtually every moment of his time inside the Capitol was caught on tape,” said Carlson of the footage. “The tapes show the Capitol Police never stopped Jacob Chansley. They helped him. They acted as his tour guides.”
Reactions to Carlson’s Monday night segment varied, with Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and other Democrats calling for Fox News to censor Carlson’s show because it apparently threatens “democracy.”
“I, so many others who were here in the capitol, and millions and millions of Americans are just furious with Tucker Carlson and Kevin McCarthy today,” the Senate Majority leader said.
Schumer continued, “And he’s going to come back tonight with another segment. Fox News should tell him not to. Fox News, Rupert Murdoch, tell Carlson not to run a second segment of lies.”
After viewing Carlson’s show on Monday night, the 45th President took to his social media platform to decry the actions taken by the partisan January 6 Committee and described the ordeal as a treasonous Democrat con.
“LET THE JANUARY 6 PRISONERS GO. THEY WERE CONVICTED, OR ARE AWAITING TRIAL, BASED ON A GIANT LIE, A RADICAL LEFT CON JOB,” the former president wrote. “THANK YOU TO TUCKER CARLSON AND SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE KEVIN McCARTHY FOR WHAT YOU BOTH HAVE DONE. NEW VIDEO FOOTAGE IS IRREFUTABLE!!!”
In anticipation of Tuesday night’s episode, the former president added: “Tucker Carlson a MUST WATCH tonight. Releasing more VIDEO which was ‘HIDDEN BY THE CROOKED J 6 UNSELECT COMMITTEE.’ They should be prosecuted for their lies and, quite frankly, TREASON!”
Carlson’s Tuesday night episode saw the Fox News host responding to Sen. Chuck Schumer’s calls to censor his show, Valiant News reported.
“In free countries, governments do not lie about protests as a pretext to gain more power for themselves,” Carlson said on his show on Tuesday. “They don’t selectively edit videos for propaganda services and then lie about them and fake hearings and show trials, but that’s exactly what happened and every member of Congress should ask why that happened.”
“Instead, Chuck Schumer went on the Senate floor today to explode and to say that showing that video evidence of wrongdoing by the federal government, including the security forces, the police department, that Nancy Pelosi personally controlled, letting the public see any of that is a threat to democracy,” Carlson continued.
The former president later that night, once again called for the January 6 Committee to be criminally investigated for “treason” and “knowingly” refusing to release critical footage to the public for partisan ends.
“GREAT JOB BY TUCKER CARLSON TONIGHT. The Unselect Committee of political Hacks & Thugs has been totally discredited. They knowingly refused to show the Videos that mattered. They should be tried for Fraud and Treason, and those imprisoned and being persecuted should be exonerated and released, NOW!”
