The Department of Justice’s June 12, 2026 announcement touting the “discovery” of emails linking the National School Boards Association (NSBA), the White House, and Attorney General Merrick Garland might have been groundbreaking—if targeted parent Kelly John Walker hadn’t already uncovered, documented, and publicly presented the same evidence years earlier.
As early as June 27, 2023, federal weaponization victim—and Founder of FreedomTalk and Parents Demanding Justice Alliance—Kelly Walker submitted a detailed report to Congress citing the House Judiciary Committee’s findings on the weaponization of federal law enforcement against school parents. By March 21, 2024, he had assembled a coalition briefing for members of Congress that included a timeline documenting the NSBA’s communications with White House staff, the September 29, 2021 letter branding concerned parents as potential domestic terrorists, and the internal NSBA emails revealing widespread opposition to the letter from within the organization itself.
The documents Walker circulated highlighted key evidence now being presented as “newly discovered”: NSBA officials acknowledging discussions with White House staff, board members objecting to the “domestic terrorist” narrative, and concerns that the association had acted without proper consultation while inviting federal intervention against parents.
The evidence did not remain buried in reports and briefing packets. On July 15, 2025, Walker organized a Capitol Hill press conference alongside Congressman Andy Ogles and the Parents Demanding Justice Alliance (PDJA), where a 33-page dossier titled Testimonies of Parents Targeted by DOJ Weaponization: 2021–2025 was formally submitted to the Federal Weaponization Working Group. The dossier contained dozens of firsthand testimonies and documented evidence of the federal targeting, surveillance, intimidation, arrests, prosecutions, and reputational harm suffered by school parents across the country.
At that event, Walker and other targeted parents publicly testified about the NSBA-White House coordination, the Garland memo, and the weaponization of federal law enforcement against citizens engaged in protected First Amendment activity. The Department of Justice was fully aware of the event and the evidence being presented. Yet while parents appeared publicly and put their names, stories, and documentation on the record, DOJ officials declined to attend and answer questions from the victims of the policies under scrutiny.
By then, the underlying facts had already been in the public domain for years.
The question raised by the DOJ’s June 2026 announcement is not whether the evidence existed—it clearly did. The question is why it took the Department of Justice nearly three years to publicly acknowledge facts that targeted parents, congressional investigators, journalists, and citizen researchers had already placed into the public record.
For families who endured arrests, prosecutions, job loss, reputational destruction, and years of government stonewalling, the delay is difficult to explain. Either the nation’s premier law-enforcement agency failed to act on evidence that was readily available, or it reviewed that evidence and chose not to act.
Neither explanation inspires confidence.
The record shows that targeted parents were sounding the alarm long before the DOJ arrived at conclusions it now presents as revelations. If anything, June 12, 2026 may be remembered less as the day the Department of Justice discovered the truth than as the day it finally caught up to it.
For years, ordinary parents did the investigative work, assembled the evidence, briefed Congress, testified publicly, organized coalitions, and documented the facts. The Department of Justice merely arrived late and took credit for exhaustive research and a story that had already been written. That’s likely just one more reason, besides retaliation, why the DOJ blocked Walker, PDJA, and selected parents from their “Round Table.”
